Shh! Don't Tell Anyone: 2 for 1 Patterns at Sand Fibers

No kidding! Until midnight Etsy (eastern) time tonight, buy one "for personal use only" pattern at Sand Fibers on Etsy and, in the Notes to Seller, let me know which other pattern of equal or lesser cost you want me to send along. Easy as pie :)

There are over 25 patterns to choose from.

Remember, if you buy Elegant Enchantment (which is for personal and commercial use, by the way, but IS eligible for this special), $7 of your purchase will go to Beate Knappe to help pay the vet bills for this lovely puppy.

BAO Item of the Week and Sand Fibers Goes to the Dogs

On this last Friday of an incredible month, I've chosen a brand new piece as my Bead Art Originals Item of the Week.

The Tocadora Peyote Cuff (2440)

Purchase and pay for this cuff AND mention "BAO" and your ring size in the Notes to Seller by midnight on Thursday, and I will include a matching peyote band ring with your shipment, as a thank you.

The Tocadora has a special history behind it. A few weeks ago, my wonderful, talented friend Jennifer of Tocadora Leather posted the most amazing leather cuff: Monster Mash

Monster Mash Recycled Leather Cuff

I fell in love with it instantly and finally bought it for myself last week. Not unexpectedly, it was even better in person!

I decided I had to create something similar with my beads (with her permission, of course). And so was born The Tocadora!

The Tocadora Peyote Cuff Bracelet (2440)

The Tocadora Peyote Cuff Bracelet (2440)

None too soon either, because my 10-month old monster puppy destroyed Monster Mash yesterday morning. No worries, however, because Jennifer--fantastic soul that she is!--has already created a replacement cuff for me, despite the fact she is sick right now.) That same puppy also appropriated The Tocadora, but damage was limited to the last inch, mainly under the toggle and so I was able to remove and replace that section. Lucky dog!

And, yes, The Tocadora will definitely be one of my Tuesday's Patterns in the future! I had so much fun beading this up that I'm really looking forward to exploring various colorways for it.

You can see the other eleven BAO Items of the Week on the Bead Art Originals blog. Here's a little preview:

Someone who looks out for me sent me a message with this link this morning. It seems that Sand Fibers has been written up as one of the "Five Best Jewelry Shops on Etsy"! While I'm honored to read this, I'm also firmly grounded in the reality that it's not really so...but a girl can dream! :D

That article is such a lovely little send off for October which has been an incredible month for Sand Fibers.
  • I reached my 700th and then 750th (and then some!) sale on Etsy.
  • Sand Fibers has had its best month in terms of number of sales on Etsy (not to jinx it: but we may hit a big round number before midnight tomorrow).
  • Last night, the 400th fan signed up on my Facebook Fan Page - http://facebook.com/SandFibersArt .
  • This blog will have had its 37,000th visitor by the end of the month (I'm only 4 shy of that, so I don't think I'm being overly optimistic).
  • The etsy store hit 3,300 hearts at the beginning of the month.
It's dizzying and it's just wonderful! And I am so very grateful to all of you who are making this possible!

Be well and get going, my friends! May life bring you many treats when you ask

Trick or Treat!

Tuesday's Patttern

I am officially declaring "Tuesday's Triangle" closed. I have done those posts (and the accompanying beading, of course) for more than a year, which is longer than I had intended. Since I missed some weeks, I suspect that I did not achieve my original goal of 52 new triangles, but I'm sure I came pretty darn close. (I may revisit triangles on a monthly basis...I'm still ruminatin' about that one.)

The end of one regular feature seems like the perfect time to introduce a new one:

Tuesday's Pattern

I will do my best to publish a new pattern every Tuesday. While I am leaving the duration of this feature open-ended, just in case I find myself unable to continue after only a few months, I do hope to simply make this part of my routine. It will be a challenge, but a good challenge ;)

To start this new feature, I have a very special new pattern with a very special purpose.

cover for elegant enchantment for personal and commercial use

You may have noted that this pattern is actually for both personal and commercial use, for half the cost of what I would normally charge for the commercial editions of my patterns. My friend and self-employed artist Beate Knappe is still struggling with the vet bills (over $4,000)after sweet Jeannie's encounter with a moving vehicle. To help her out, I will donate $7 of the sale of this pattern, whenever it sells, for however many copies it sells. No deadline. No special comment on your part. I will just forward that money to her every time this pattern sells. Simple. Uncomplicated. I will give her the Etsy user name of the beaders who purchase this, so that she knows where to send good thoughts ;)

The original cuff, by the way, is also available on Etsy, for those of you who do not bead :)

BAO Item of the Week and Patterns

Fridays sure get here in a hurry lately! Is it because I'm getting older or is it because I've been so busy...or both?

I've recently sold two copies of my Evening Tidal Pool Cuff, and so it should come as no surprise that I decided on their Early Morning Tidal Pool companion piece as my Bead Art Originals Item of the Week.

This particular cuff is a one-of-a-kind creation, because I only had that one perfect button by Lisa Peters. Purchase and pay for this by midnight on Thursday, October 29, AND mention "BAO" in the Notes to Seller at checkout, and I will send you a refund of your shipping charges...and I'll even upgrade your shipping to Priority for US buyers ;)

And here's a look at the other ten BAO Items of the Week. You can find details about all of them on the Bead Art Originals blog.

Earlier in the week, I asked my friends/fans on Facebook and Flickr which of four patterns I should publish next. I ended up choosing two and they went up on Etsy this morning.

Unexpected Inspiration

A few weeks ago, my Bead Art Originals teammate and friend Mak of MAKUstudio listed this glorious Raku Copper Ohm pendant.

Raku Copper Om Ohm Aum Pendant Raku Ceramic Jewelry by MAKUstudio

My mind, as it is apt to do, did an immediate "What if?" and I added a certain cuff to my To Do list. On the way out of last week's I-can't-bead-from-a-pattern period, I was able to take that particular item off my list and put it on Etsy instead:

Gunmetal on Copper Ohm Peyote Cuff (2437)

Remember, if you'd like to try making this particular cuff for yourself, the pattern - in both peyote and loom/square stitch - is available as well ;) I'll gladly share the "bead soup" recipe with you.

Tuesday's Triangle and We Have a Winner!

In my I-can't-work-from-a-pattern phase last week, I created a wonderful bronze bead soup. Seven different bronze delicas, ranging from light metallic to matte iris, resulted in a gorgeous bead banded. But it was lacking something, so, knowing that I would require a triangle for today, I revisited the design I originally made for Fiery Gotham a month ago, with a totally different "feel."

Amazonian Bronze Peyote Cuff (2436)

Amazonian Bronze Peyote Cuff (2436)

The first photograph may seem over-exposed but it accurately reflects the beads. Go figure. I'll get this photography bit down, one of these days/weeks/months/years. Just you wait and see! ;p

~~~
And now for your real reason for being here. We have a winner in the Win a Tuesday's Triangle drawing.
Twenty-nine of the 31 comments received were eligible (2 were just leaving contact information after having commented already). Our trusy random number generator pulled #23 out of its cyber hat.
And the 23rd (eligible) comment was
I will be contacting Lidai to get her triangle design preferences and mailing address this afternoon. Congratulations! And thank you to everyone who played :D I promise there will be more opportunities to win Sand Fibers goodies in the future.
Now, please, be well and get going!
Busy Bead Saturday
Just when I thought today would be a completely unremarkable day in the annals of Sand Fibers beading, I remembered that I had a brand-spankin' new cuff to list.
Not So Innocent Peyote Cuff Bracelet (2435)
I had a few days this past week when beading from a detailed pattern was just out of the question, so I worked on pieces that didn't require a pattern. This was one of those; the other will debut as this coming Tuesday's Triangle.
Seven different shades and finishes of white delicas combined with simple gunmetal make for a cuff that has incredible depth and texture, the kind that my photography skills don't do justice.
But wait! That's not all I got done today. I also self-published and listed the pattern for my Abstract Southwestern Peyote Cuff pattern.
cover for abstract southwestern for personal use only
And that would be it for today.
Be well and get going, my friends. I do hope you are having a lovely weekend.
BAO Item of the Week (Oct 16-22)
It's Friday. Our tax returns are filed. My husband is back in town. The dogs are outside. My coffee is hot. Life is good :)
And since it's Friday, it's also BAO-Item-of-the-Week-announcement time (say that fast three times!). Several years ago, I came up with the design for Elegant Black, Copper, and Bronze Bracelet. At 3/4" wide it's a simple, elegant, very unobtrusive statement.
Elegant Black, Copper, and Bronze Bracelet (2056)
A few weeks ago, a customer inquired about a wider version of this design. The customer is always right! (There's a reason they say that, don't cha know!) The result was Wide Edition of Elegant Black, Copper, and Bronze Bracelet which I am now offering as a made-to-order piece and as this week's BAO Item of the Week at Sand Fibers.
You can find the other eleven Items of the Week on the Bead Art Originals blog. It's another incredible selection.
